ORONO BITCHES!
Cabildo Press, an Orono-based small press dedicated to publishing works by new and emerging writers and poets, celebrates its release of author Duncan Wilder Johnson’s “How I Fell In Love With Punk Rock” with a reading/rock show at the Keith Anderson Community Center at 19 Bennoch Road in Orono on Sunday, July 12th. Johnson is the frontman for Boston-based band Destruct-A-Thon, which recently advanced to the semi-finals of WBCN Boston’s annual Rock N’ Roll Rumble. He has performed spoken word shows in the United States, England, Scotland and Ireland since 1995, sharing the stage with such luminaries as Jim Carroll, Eugene Mirman and Lydia Lunch. Joining Johnson on the bill are Washington DC’s Andalusians. The band, a three-piece, are signed to Dischord Records, the record label started by scene stalwart Ian MacKaye, formerly of Minor Threat and Fugazi. The Andalusians, led by Basla Andolsun (also a member of Washington DC’s Beauty Pill) have never played Maine before, and are excited to visit Orono on their summer U.S. tour. Also on the bill are Portland’s Rattlesnakes, and Orono’s Rotundo Sealeg. The show is all ages, costs $6, and begins at 7 pm. No alcohol or drugs permitted.
